Barrett Katz, M.D., M.B.A.
Chief Executive Officer
Chief Medical Officer


Dr. Katz joined Danube as CEO and CMO following a distinguished career in Neurosciences, academic Ophthalmology and industry. He was most recently Chief Medical Officer of Fovea Pharmaceuticals, SA in Paris, France, and prior to that served as Vice President for Medical Affairs and Medical Strategy at Eyetech Pharmaceuticals in New York.

His was previously Professor of Ophthalmology, Neurology and Neurosurgery as well as Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at the George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, DC. While at G.W. he formulated and sponsored a joint fellowship in Ophthalmic Drug Development, Clinical Trials, and Regulatory Affairs with the FDA. Dr. Katz has over 200 publications to his credit, obtained over two dozen research grants, been a visiting professor at over 100 academic sites world-wide, and served in leadership positions within the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Ophthalmologic Society, the Association of University Professors of Ophthalmology, and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.

He attended Colgate University, and graduated from the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. In addition, he obtained an MBA from the University of Rochester's Simon School of Business.

Dr. Katz trained in Internal Medicine at the Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas, and in Neuro-virology at the National Institutes of Health. He completed a residency in Neurology at the Harvard Medical School, and a second residency in Ophthalmology at the Tufts-New England Medical Center. He served as a fellow in Pediatric Neurology at the Boston Children's Hospital, in Neuro-Ophthalmology at the University of California in San Francisco, and in Neurology at the National Hospital at Queen's Square, in London. Dr. Katz is currently Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University as well as at the New York University School of Medicine.




Brian Levy, O.D., M.Sc.
Chief Operating Officer


Dr. Levy serves as Chief Operating Officer. Prior to joining Danube, Dr. Levy served as Corporate Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of Bausch & Lomb worldwide. In this role, he was responsible for clinical research, global product safety and medical affairs. During his tenure at Bausch & Lomb Dr. Levy was responsible for the development and subsequent approval of multiple NDA's, PMA's and 510K's as well as approvals in Europe and Asia for both drugs and devices in Ophthalmology. Dr. Levy initially joined Bausch & Lomb in 1994 as Director of Medical and Clinical Affairs. Previous to his roles at Bausch & Lomb, Dr. Levy served as a Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco as Director of its Medical Contact Lens Service. Before that he studied epidemiology and biostatistics in vision research through the National Institutes of Health and was in clinical practice for 10 years, in Canada. During this period Dr. Levy was a clinical investigator for numerous eye care products in development, and an advisor and consultant to the ophthalmic industry.

Dr. Levy currently holds an appointment as Clinical Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Rochester's School of Medicine. He received a Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of California at Berkeley and did his post-graduate work in comparative anatomy and physiology of the eye at the University of Waterloo in Canada, where he received a Master of Science degree. Dr. Levy has published widely in peer reviewed journals and has presented nationally and internationally at scientific and educational symposia of Ophthalmology.




David R. Guyer, M.D.
Chairman


Dr. Guyer serves as Chairman and as a member of Danube's Board of Directors. He currently is a Partner at SV Life Sciencess. Prior to joining Danube, Dr. Guyer was most recently the CEO, co-founder and a director of Eyetech Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company that specialized in the development and commercialization of the treatment of retinal disease; it successfully brought to market the first drug therapy approved for macular degeneration. He led the firm through a series of events representative of the life cycle of a venture-backed portfolio company. These included closing private financing rounds totaling approximately $170 million, completing a $157 million initial public offering and secondary financing. Eyetech successfully developed and gained FDA approval for Macugen as the first agent commercialized for blockade of VEGF in the eye. Eyetech partnered with Pfizer in a deal valued at over $750 million, and was later sold to OSI Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Macugen achieved net sales of $184 million in its launch year, one of the top 8 percent of all recorded pharmaceutical launches.

Prior to founding Eyetech, Dr. Guyer was Professor and Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at the NYU School of Medicine. He received a BSc from Yale College and an MD from Johns Hopkins University.




Yordak Salermo
Senior Director of Clinical Operations


In April 2008, Danube appointed Mr. Salermo as Senior Director of Clinical Operations. In his most recent position, he oversaw the clinical trial activities in Latin America for a new pulmonary compound for a mid-sized pharmaceutical company. He has been a consultant for TrialRunners, Inc, and prior to that managed several global ophthalmic/medical device clinical trials all over the world. In Mr. Salermo's decade of pharmaceutical experience, he has worked in several therapeutic areas - Phase I through Phase IV - and for several companies - Aventis-Sanofi, Eyetech Pharmaceuticals, Pfizer, and Forest Laboratories - in clinical operations and trials design, management and execution.
